Welcome to the Jubilee Brief: the second of six installments serving up samples of some heady, hoppy PA gatherings. Doesn’t matter if you’re a Slave to the IPAs, Sour Monkey, or Scotch-Brewed and Stoudt type of Scout, we’ve crafted a flight of festivals sure to have you ordering another pour.
What’s on tap this month?
The 2017 Spring Threestival
When: May 12-14th, 2017
Where: Hookie’s Grove
Hookie’s Grove Road, Northumberland, PA
For the third production of their festival, Time Relapse has tapped into some top dogs of techrock. Consider the Source and Out of the Beardspace headline, creating a hoppy pair to the heavy jams of Time Relapse. Due to exceeded interest, this year’s Threestival had a last minute location change to Hookie’s Grove—hard to imagine why when it’s a weekend promised to melt your face.
Aside from music, these pet-friendly grounds will be decked out with psychedelic blacklight art, cuddle puddles, and plenty of room for car-side camping.
Other confirmed acts include Klusterfunk, Medusa’s Disco, The Stray Seeds, and Mercury Retrograde.
When: May 18-21st, 2017
Where: Fort Royale Farm
5575 Bedford Valley Road, Bedford PA
For their eighth year, Dome Fest takes flight with a lineup that soars with talent and thrill. Hosts Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will rock out FOUR sets; Aqueous and Electric Love Machine (ELM) will each gift crowds with two sets of their own. Nestled in Fort Royal Farm, Dome Fest promises shaded grounds and car-side camping–what more could you ask for, really?
Some joining acts will include Consider the Source, Lespecial, Flux Capacitor, and Swift Technique, but seriously, check out the lineup beyond that—it’s staked.
SIDE NOTE: Parking is FREE with cars holding three or more guests; help our environment, save $10, and carpool people!!
Susquehanna Breakdown
When: May 19-21st, 2017
Where: Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain
1000 Montage Mountain Rd, Scranton, PA
If you’re into Bluegrass with your Brews, then you may want to head north for the Breakdown.
Cabinet returns home for their third year to host this unique Montage experience. Compared to larger Montage productions like Peach Music Festival and Camp Bisco, SB draws a less intimidating crowd size. As a local fest gal, I feel this allows a more intimate experience, and there’s a heck of a lot less walking. Patrons have even been allowed to set up camp right on the pavilion lawn, giving a front row view from the comfort of your tent (yes, that’s right, no need to fret over FOMO or tent lock here).
Joining Cabinet is Keller Williams’ Grateful Grass, Turkuaz, The Wood Brothers, and local string talent Serene Green.
Gypsy Wind II
When: May 25-28th, 2017
Where: The Art Farm,
49 Old Philly Pike, Kempton PA
A lovechild of Grateful Acres Productions and Appalachian Gypsy Tribe (AGT), Gypsy Wind II wraps up our May sampler.
AGT will be taking over two nights of music with a friend list full of other fun acts: Flux Capacitor, Nik Greeley & the Operators, Muppet’s Titanium Stardust Machine, Janelle Vibes, Earth Diver, Riffmatik, and Stronger than Dirt are among the 20+ confirmed.
Encompassed by private, rustic landscapes, The Art Farm falls close to AGT’s homebase and hearts—it’s a familiar home for fans, too. An event going above and beyond to cater to a family atmosphere, kids under 12 get in for free. And of course the weekend wouldn’t be complete without a schedule full of fire and performance artists, craft vending, and daytime workshops.
So, there it is: your May serving of some tasty tunes. Check in next month for our June Jubilee– remember, it’s only getting hotter from here.
